베짱이들의 파라다이스, 게임학과가 강한 미국 대학들

오늘 아침 Becker College의 총장인 Robert E. Johnson 박사로부터 이 메일 한 통을 받았다. Becker College가 3년 연속으로 The Princeton Review의 Top 10 Video Game Design 우수 학부에 선정되었다는 것이다. 

 

좋아하는 게임을 하면서 게임에 대하여 학문적으로 깊게 공부하여 게임 기술을 개발하고 향후 취업 혹은 창업을 할 수 있다면 게임을 좋아하는 학생에게는 솔깃한 이야기가 될 것이다. 게임에 빠져 늘 부모님께 걱정을 듣는 베짱이들에게는 게임학과가 그들만의 파라다이스가 아닐 수 없다.

게임 디자인 학부에서는 게임 컨텐츠, PC나 모바일 게임, 게임 음악이나 그래픽 제작 기술을 배우게 된다. 게임 디자인 학과의 교육과정으로는 웹문서 제작, 컴퓨터 프로그래밍, 컴퓨터 그래픽, 게임 언어, 게임 이론, 게임 운용 이론, 게임 그래팩, 게임 윤리, 게임 실험 분석, 게임 비즈니스 등이 포함되어 폭넓은 이론을 공부하며 실습하게 된다. 이와 같은 게임 디자인을 전공하게 되면 컴퓨터 운용, 정보처리, 무선 인터넷 관리, 웹 관리 등에 능해져 향후 게임 기획 전문가, 그래픽 전문가, 프로그래밍 전문가로 활약할 수 있다.

 Princeton Review에서는 특정 프로그램이 우수한 대학의 순위를 발표한다. Princeton Review에서는다음의 기준으로 순위를 매기는데, 학생들이 학교를 선택할 때 Princeton Review에서 근거로 하는 다음의 요인들을 염두에 두면 학교나 프로그램을 선정할 때 도움이 될 것이다.
