Walnut Hill School for the Art 은 필자와 여러 모로 인연이 있는 학교이다. 지난 해 Jake Youmell 미술 부장 (Chair of Fine Arts Department)을 만난 데 이어 올해에는 Mike Bucco 입학사무처장 (Director of Admission), Angela Stucchi 선생님 (Guidance Counselor), Rebekka Goldberg (Assistant Dean for Admission) 선생님과의 미팅을 했었기 때문이다. 특히 Jake는 필자를 Boston Educational Services 라는 회사에 적극적으로 추천하여 세쿼이아 그룹이 한국에서 iTEP (International Test of English Proficiency), iTEP-SLATE (Secondary Language Assessment Test of English) 그리고 iTEP Business의 한국 공식 시험 기관 (Certified iTEP Test Center)으로 인증 받도록 애를 써주신 고마운 분이다.

 

미국의 3대 예술 보딩 스쿨인 Walnut Hill School for the Art

보스톤에 위치한 Walnut Hill School for the Art는 서부의 Idyllwild Arts Academy와 중북부에 위치한 Interlochen Arts Academy와 더불어 유일한 Professional Arts Boarding School이다. 1893년 Florence Bigelow와 Charlotte Conant에 의해 여학생을 위한 College Prep School로 세워졌던 Walnut Hill School은 1970년대에 들어와 Pulizer 수상자인 시인 Laureate Elizabeth Bishop과 Marion Pooke에 의해 남녀 공학의 전문 예술고등학교로 탈바꿈했다. Walnut Hill Arts Academy는 Dance, Music, Theater, Visual Art와 Creative Writing의 5개 분야의 프로그램을 제공한다.

한편 Theater 전공 학생들은 Acting and Musical Theater, Combining rigorous training of the mind, Body, Voice, Forming a solid technique 과 Approach to the craft를 배우게 되면 Actor Training, 디자인과 제작의 이해 등 드라마와 관련된 수업을 진행하게 된다.
