필자가 소속되어 있는 IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association)은 미국의 대학 입학 지원 사무를 관장하고 있는 단체인 Common Application Board의 Liaison 기관으로의 역할을 하고 있습니다. 며칠 전 IECA의 The College Committee의 Chairperson인 Dr. Mark Fisher는 2014-2015 학년도 대학 입학 업무를 위한 Common Application의 웹사이트를 개편에 관련된 안내 메일을 보내 왔습니다. Common Application Board와의 Liaison을 담당하고 있는 IECA의 Bari Norman은 새롭게 개편된 Common Application에서의 여러 가지 정보를 회원들에게 전달했습니다.

IECA로부터 Common Application에 관련된 최신의 정보 입수

8월 막바지를 보내고 있는 12학년 학생들에게 대학 입시와 관련하여 Common Application에서 발표한 따끈따끈한 정보를 미리 공개하려고 합니다. 아마도 필자는 우리나라에서는 최초로 2014-2015학년도 Common Application에 관한 내용을 공개할 수 있게 되어 내년을 준비하는 학생들에게 많은 도움이될 것을 기대합니다.

Ms. Normanl에게서 받은 메일에서 가장 알찬 정보는 각 고등학교의 Counselor에게 발송된 “Guide to the Application”인 것 같습니다. 미국의 명문 대학 준비를 하고 있는 우리나라 학생들과 조기 유학생들에게 유용할 것으로 생각되어 이를 발췌 정리하여 공개하도록 하겠습니다.

다음의 정보는 12학년 학생들이 Common Application을 이용하여 원서를 작성할 때 미리 알아두면 편리한 정보입니다. Common Application을 이용하여 원서를 작성할 때 어떤 내용의 정보들을 입력해야 하는지 미리 살펴 본 다면 실제 원서를 작성할 때 큰 도움과 통찰력을 얻을 수 있을 것입니다. 특히 Essay 난에 공개된 에세이 제목에 유의하여 미리미리 에세이를 작성하여 Headstart 할 수 있다면 합격의 길은 훨씬 앞에 와 있을 것입니다.
